    Superintendent’s Message

    April 2, 2020

    Dear Boerne ISD Family,

As you may have heard, following an executive order by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Boerne ISD will extend its closure for all campuses and departments until May 4th, to help keep our students and staff safe during the COVID-19 virus.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you for all that you are doing on the home front to make sure your kids are maximizing remote learning.  We know none of this has been easy for any of you and we continue to be in awe of the love and support our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians and so many others are showing the students of Boerne ISD.

While the buildings may be closed, learning has continued in full force at BISD.  Our teachers are coming up with creative ways to connect with their classes and continue the lesson plans for this school year. I can’t thank our staff enough for the hard work that they have put in for our students.

Despite the extended closure, there are many positives at BISD.  Join me in capturing the many great moments occurring in the new way of doing school on social media.  We will be on the lookout for your posts with the hashtag, #GreatThingsBoerneISD.  I would love to see the great things happening in your family distance learning environment.  You have raised the standard! Below are this week's updates.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Thomas Price, Jr.

    Superintendent of Schools

    Boerne ISD

    Superintendent’s Message

    March 26, 2020

    Dear Boerne ISD Family,

I recognize how difficult it has become to have the added uncertainty of how long schools will be closed to establishing practical and healthy routines at home. In alignment with the recent extension of our district’s cities and county’s emergency declaration through April 24, I have also extended the closure of the school district.

    School Closure

All campuses and departments will be closed through April 24. We are quickly learning and implementing remote work environments for our staff and can continue providing the many supports to our students as we always have. It is a different way of doing the work, but we are here and dedicated to being our very best for all.

Below are some important updates. Please take a moment to read through them. As always, we are grateful for every student and family in BISD. I have never been prouder to serve a community as I am now.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Thomas Price, Jr.

    Superintendent of Schools

    Boerne ISD

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    Distance/Remote Learning

Remote learning will continue for all students. Now that we know we will be teaching and learning in this fashion for the next month, please expect lessons to be more rigorous. It is our goal to provide challenging yet manageable lessons for our students. Packet pick‐up is scheduled on Friday, March 27 from 9 AM ‐ 11 AM at your child's campus. We anticipate, as our students become better adjusted to learning remotely, there will be less of a need for printed packets. We will continue to make them available for students while we reduce the number of employees required to make this happen.

    Counseling Services

It is during times like these, our children may require social and emotional support. In addition to providing supports to our instruction team, our counselors will continue to make themselves available through virtual supports for our students. For more information click here: BISD Student Support Services

    Drive‐Through Meal Service

We will continue to provide a drive‐through meal service at Curington ES and Boerne Middle School South. Breakfast 7‐8 AM & Lunch 11 AM‐12 PM. We are receiving more guidance from the state on how we will need to manage our food program moving forward. We will only be able to provide meals for our students who are in the vehicle at the time of pick‐up. You may be asked to provide additional information when picking up a meal. Thank you in advance for your understanding as we work to comply with the directives of the state and the Texas Department of Agriculture.

    School Closure

All campuses and departments will be closed on March 23-27.   All but essential staff will be working remotely during this time.

We have received a significant number of questions from our community about why BISD has not announced a long-term closure as other districts in the area have already publicized.  The administration is prepared to provide distance/remote learning for as long as necessary.

The school board will meet on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 5:30 PM to receive an update about the impact of COVID 19 on BISD schools.

    Distance/Remote Learning

Online Learning: The various online resources will be available to students by 4 PM today. Students may use this link to access their learning materials.

Schools are closed – Stay Home

What we are doing to prepare for the reopening of schools

Already we are working to establish procedures to address absences, extended leave, self-reporting for students and staff who may have traveled outside of the country before the reopening of schools, grading and GPA, and much more.  Thank you for the confidence you have placed in us to provide the very best for your students and our staff.

The impact of COVID 19 has changed the way we do business.  Your child, our staff and our community are my priority.  I will continue to bring you information as it is available.

    Superintendent’s Message

    March 17, 2020

    Dear Boerne ISD Family,

It has been a very difficult decision to close our schools because I know there is a significant impact on each of our BISD families. I am committed to keeping you informed in the best way possible during this time, as I am also committed to making sure our schools are clean and safe for students and staff when we are back in session. Of utmost importance is the decision to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on social distancing to lessen the spread of COVID 19. This closure is done out of an abundance of caution. Below is important information, as we move forward.

    School Closure

All campuses and departments will be closed on March 16-20. Only essential personnel will meet to prepare for the needs of staff and students during the closure.  I respectfully, ask other staff, students and parents not to enter or come to our facilities during this time. All scheduled field trips and UIL events have also been canceled. Should our closure extend beyond this week, I will notify you by Friday, March 20.

For more information about the guidance given by TEA on closures and instruction you may access it through their web page designated for COVID 19. https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/safe-and-healthy-schools/coronavirus-covid-19-support-and-guidance

    Distance/Remote Learning

Prior to the granting of attendance waivers by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) the district is required to make available to our students “continuity of learning” through distance/remote learning opportunities.  This is the first time the state has required school districts to continue instruction during closure events.  We, like many other school districts, are working around the clock to provide students distant or remote learning.  Information will be made available to you and your students about materials, resources, and mandatory student participation on Wed. March 18.  Information will be made available on our website at https://www.boerneisd.net/covid19

    Meal Service

Today we served 360 meals through our drive through locations at Curington ES and Boerne MS South. We will continue to provide meals at these locations throughout the closure.  Breakfast 7-8 AM & Lunch 11 AM-12 PM.  If you know of anyone who may want to volunteer to serve, you may sign up by visiting our website at https://www.boerneisd.net/mealservice

    Cleanliness & Safety

Here is some information about the steps we are taking to make sure our facilities are cleaned and ready for the return of staff and students.

     Buildings

    • Deep cleaning of all campuses to include surface cleaning of all high touch areas, like desks, water fountains, chairs and tables
    • Electrostatic sanitizers used in every room providing a microbial barrier to all exposed items in a room
    • Restock of soap, hand towels, and toilet paper

     Playgrounds

    • Contracted cleaning service to clean and sanitize all playground equipment

     Busses

    • Deep clean of busses
    • Daily sanitizing of busses while school is in session

As we navigate this unprecedented situation, I ask for your patience as our administrative team continues to work through all of the decisions and concerns that must be addressed. We are mindful that our responses and actions must be made to provide the very best for our students, staff, and community. Your ongoing support and understanding are appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Thomas Price, Jr.

  • Local Leaders Meet about COVID 19

Posted by Elaine Howard on 3/14/2020 2:00:00 PM

    Local leaders meet about COVID-19

Local leaders have been talking together, along with other local and state agencies, for weeks about the COVID-19 situation.  This morning, a group of 40 representatives from the Kendall County,  City of Boerne, the City of Fair Oaks Ranch, Boerne ISD, emergency management and law enforcement officials, health care and first responders, the Boerne Chamber, Boerne Kendall County EDC, HEB and Walmart came together at Boerne’s City Hall to discuss the most recent information related to COVID-19.

This group is unified on strategies to prevent the spread of the virus in our community and continues to actively monitor all area, state, and federal actions related to this emerging community health threat. With the rapidly changing information regarding this virus, going forward, representatives from these groups will coordinate daily and release updated information that impacts area residents.  You will see messages coming through every avenue that can be used: websites, Facebook, emails, etc.

A couple of key messages we want everyone in our community to know:

    • There is no reason to panic about the current situation.
    • All of us take this COVID-19 threat very seriously and we implore people to remain calm.
    • We will remain vigilant and engaged with health officials daily until this situation passes.
    • We are committed to frequent, consistent and proactive communication to our community members.
    • At the moment we are not in an emergency situation status.
    • We endorse the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as the key source of information on how to handle COVID-19.
    • We all are operating on a daily basis as we have, with some modifications to our procedures.
    • None of us know exactly what the next few weeks will hold, but we are monitoring and responding to the hourly changes as quickly as possible.
    • There will be continuous communications about our plans to the entire community.

This situation has, without a doubt, changed our lives in the short run.  We all believe that staying calm and responding in a cohesive fashion as a strong community, we can support each other through this to a successful conclusion.

  • BISD School Closure March 16-March 20

Posted by Dr. Thomas Price on 3/13/2020 3:00:00 PM

Our nation is struggling with unprecedented health concerns. Like many of you, we have been closely monitoring the progress and professional guidance on COVID-19. As a community, we are concerned about anyone personally affected by this situation.

Based on the continued spread of COVID-19 and the San Antonio mayor’s prohibition of gatherings of 500 or more people, all Boerne ISD campuses, like other area school districts, will be closed March 16-20, 2020.  This includes the cancellation of all UIL events, athletics, field trips, after-school programs, and other campus activities. Classes will resume tentatively on Monday, March 23, 2020.

In addition, our Food Services Department will announce procedures for the distribution of food to address children’s nutritional needs while school is out of session.

While this is a difficult decision, it is made based on guidance and information from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the Governors’ office, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas School Safety Consortium, and our school board.

District administration will continue to closely monitor the situation during the closure and provide updates, as available. We urge everyone to follow all health guidelines and keep you and your families protected.  We want to thank everyone for their support and patience!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Thomas Price
