    Course Description

    Spanish is an integrated study enhancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for new language learners and native speakers.  Activities in Level II activities are at a low intermediate proficiency.  

     

    Course Objectives

    Students will develop an awareness of written and spoken similarities and differences between Spanish and English.  Students will be given opportunities to listen attentively and speak fluently in various settings, as well as write for different audiences and purposes in the target language.  Students will also be exposed to and work with various types of written works and authentic resources.  They will learn major grammar points of the language as well as learn about culture.

     

    Grading Criteria

    Major grades are averaged and count as 50% 

    Minor grades are averaged and count as 50%.

    *Examples of Minor grades include, but are not limited to: homework, quizzes, short writing, research, or projects; class, or group work; formative assessments, checks for understanding, warm-ups/exit tickets, gallery walks, journals, and discussions.

    *Examples of Major grades include but are not limited to: tests, projects, writing assessments, timed writing, research papers, summative assessments, formal presentations, etc.

     

    Daily work = evaluated by quality and/or by participation  (No advanced notice of which will be used will be given.)  No zero will be given for attempted daily work!  

     

    Homework = assigned in class and/or through Google Classroom (review vocabulary using Quizlet)

    Quizzes = Pop (surprise!) quizzes will be used often. 

    Major projects = major grade(s) 

    Notebook check = minor grade

     

    Late Work Allowances:  

    1 class period = 70

    2 class periods = 50

    3 class periods = 0

    *Note: Most but not all work is accepted late.

    **Semester exam counts as 15% of semester average. 

    **Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. 

    **Retakes are allowed as per BISD policy: 1 per quarter, maximum of 70. 

    **Any academic dishonesty will be zero with no chance of retake. This includes any translation assistance. (GOOGLE TRANSLATE IS NOT ALLOWED) AND if a phone and/or ear buds are visible at any time during any assessment, it will be considered academic dishonesty.

    Binder

    1 divider

    Lined paper

    Index cards

    Earphones/buds with mic. 3.5 mm standard jack. 

    Your own supply Ex: highlighters, pencil or pen

    4. Poner teléfono celular en el cajón de Sra. Russin antes de entrar al salón. Put your cell phone in your backpacks before coming into the classroom. (PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED DURING CLASS)

    1. Dar aviso (Warning)

    2. Dar tiempo extendido a pensar (Think Time)

    3. Llamar a los padres (Parent contact)

    4. Mandar a la oficina (Office referral) 

    Cell Phones

    Cell phone use is not permitted in class. Before entering the classroom, please silence/turn off your cell phones and place in Sra. Russin's bin.  If your cell phone is caught being used in class without permission, you will receive a Referral and parents will be contacted. I have read and understood the classroom rules and procedures.
