Boerne ISD believes in the ASCD Whole Child approach, which is "an effort to transition from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children. We help educators, families, community members, and policymakers move from a vision about educating the whole child to sustainable, collaborative action". In the 2019-2020 school year, all BISD campuses from PK-12 implemented the Whole Child initiative. BISD counselors worked diligently to create a social/emotional curriculum that is now integrated across curricula at all academic levels. BISD's Great 8 Skills were developed and are taught quarterly over a period of 2 years. 

It was important to the whole child counseling team to have a common language for instruction across all campuses. Click on each of the skills below to see the definition, the WHY, key concepts, components of each skill, and core tools counselors and teachers use to teach the skill to their students.
