Salary Determination

Years' Experience for Pay

At the time of an employment offer, the employee's years of experience for pay is determined based on the credible experience identified and verified in the employment application and/or the resume.  A division factor is applied as follows:

  • 1 = same type of experience
  • 2 = similar type of experience
  • 3 = all other experience

NON-EXEMPT EXAMPLE:  INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE

  • 5 years working as instructional aide in another school district = 5 / 1 = 5 years
  • 4 years working in a daycare = 4 / 2 = 2 years
  • 6 years working in a clerical position = 6 / 3 = 2 years

Candidate's salary offer will be based on 9 years' experience, while the candidate has 16 total years of work experience.

EXEMPT EXAMPLE:  ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

  • 6 years working as an assistant principal in another school district = 6 / 1 = 6 years
  • 10 years working as a teacher = 10 / 2 = 5 year

Candidate's salary offer will be based on 11 years' experience, while the candidate has 16 total years of work experience.

Annualized Salary Distribution

Boerne ISD annualizes the pay for all full-time, permanent employees.  Annualization is a calculation that distributes an employee's annual salary equally over a set period of time, such as 12 months.  For employees who are not scheduled to work during the summer months or holiday breaks, this means the employee will still receive his/her normal standard gross pay during those periods.

NON-EXEMPT EXAMPLE

  • Hourly Rate = $15.00
  • Daily Rate = $15.00 x 8 hours = $120.00
  • Days in Work Schedule = 187
  • Annual Base Salary = $120.00 x 187 days = $22,440
  • Monthly Gross Pay = $22,440 / 12 payments = $1870 standard gross per check

EXEMPT EXAMPLE

  • Daily Rate = $265.50
  • Days in Work Schedule = 226
  • Annual Base Salary = $60,003
  • Monthly Gross Pay = $60,003 / 12 payments = $5,000.25 standard gross per check

Proration

Boerne ISD prorates the gross pay for all permanent, full-time employees who begin after the first day of the workday calendar or leave prior to the last day of the workday calendar. Proration is a calculation which distributes the payment for the number of days worked equally over a set period of time.

Annual salary and gross pay will be adjusted based on the hire date, actual work days remaining in the work schedule and payments remaining for the specific school year.

NON-EXEMPT EXAMPLE

  • Hourly Rate = $15.00
  • Daily Rate = $15.00 x 8 hours = $120.00
  • Remaining Days in work schedule = 106
  • Prorated Base Salary = $120.00 x 106 days = $12,720
  • Number of Paychecks Remaining = 8
  • Monthly Gross Pay = $12,720 / 8 payments = $1590 standard gross per check

EXEMPT EXAMPLE

  • Daily Rate = $265.50
  • Remaining Days in Work Schedule = 175
  • Prorated Base Salary = $46,462.50
  • Monthly Gross Pay = $46,462.50 / 9 payments = $5,162.50 standard gross per check
