Kindergarten

In Boerne ISD, our kindergarten program builds the foundation for academic success!

In accordance with state law, students who are five (5) years old on or before September 1 are eligible for the kindergarten program.

A child may be enrolled in the first grade if he or she is at least six (6) years of age at the beginning of the current school year or has been enrolled in the first grade, or completed kindergarten, in the public schools of another state prior to transferring to the district. (TEC 42.003(c))

All students who are at least five years of age on September 1 of the current school year shall be enrolled in the kindergarten program at the time of registration.

Required Documents

The following documents are required for kindergarten registration:

Proof of Boerne ISD Residency: To confirm your address within the Boerne Independent School District:
- Homeowners must provide a full-page copy of a recent utility bill (Water, gas, or electric. Cell phone bills are not accepted.).
- Renters should present a current, signed lease agreement with the parent or guardian listed as the leaseholder or occupant.
- For unique living situations, a 'Declaration of Residency' or 'Grandparent Care Affidavit' must be completed by the parent or guardian and homeowner or leaseholder. Basic proof of residence for the homeowner or leaseholder is required.
Parent/Guardian Identification: To ensure a secure enrollment process, we will need a current government-issued photo ID from a parent or guardian.
Student's Immunization Record: Acceptable documents include current up-to-date immunization record or records for exemption from immunization for reason of conscience. For detailed requirements, please visit Boerne ISD's Immunization Requirements
Student's Birth Certificate (or equivalent): A certified copy of the student's birth certificate is required. Alternatively, a valid passport or a vital statistics document is acceptable.

RECOMMENDED:

Student's Social Security Number: While not required, Social Security numbers are used for the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). Students without a Social Security number will be issued a State ID for PEIMS purposes, per TEC §25.001(b)(5).

The same paperwork is required to register children after school begins or if children are transferring from a different school district.

Boerne ISD is committed to meet the needs of students in the early grades. Each school has highly qualified certified teachers with a focus on developing oral language in a safe, nurturing environment.

There are many benefits to attending Pre-K through 2nd grade in BISD. Some of those benefits include:

STATE PLANS HB3

Under HB 3, school boards are required to adopt plans in early childhood literacy and math, as well as college, career, and military readiness. All plans are required to include:

at least one assigned district-level administrator or employee of the regional education service center for the district’s region to coordinate implementation and submit annual report to the board on the district’s progress;
an annual review by the board at a public meeting;
an annual report posted on district and campus websites; and
specific, quantifiable, annual goals for five years at each campus

Early childhood plans are required to include:

annual goals for aggregate student growth on 3rd grade math and reading STAAR;
annual targets for students in each group evaluated under closing the gaps domain;
targeted professional development for classroom teachers in kindergarten through 3rd grade for campuses that the board identifies as not meeting the plan’s goals and that considers the unique needs of students in bilingual education or special language programs.

College, career, and military readiness plans are required to include:

annual goals for aggregate student growth on CCMR readiness indicators evaluated under the student achievement domain; and
annual targets for students in each group evaluated under closing the gaps domain.
