Boerne Outdoor Academy

In many ways, educating our children has never been more important. The world is changing rapidly. The information our children  need to learn is expanding. The challenges of our society are becoming more diverse. In order to succeed in the future, our children  will need to know how to approach the unknown with curiosity and confidence, how to work with a variety of people, and how to apply  their knowledge in responsible ways. The BOA program is designed to help develop these skills. 

Children who have wonderful memories of the outdoors develop a lifelong enthusiasm and respect for the natural world. Those who explore outside the four walls of the traditional classroom develop a desire to continue learning throughout the rest of their lives. 

Personal and Educational Growth 
BOA will encourage participants to cultivate a positive attitude toward themselves and others. Personal growth is aligned with the  district’s “core virtues”. Camp activities encourage participation with a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm. Outstanding behavior is  recognized. Discipline is provided in support of personal development, providing opportunities for self-improvement. BOA curriculum  offers participation in interdisciplinary activities aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), promoting inquiry,  critical thinking, problem solving, reflection, and application.  

Community Relationships 
As a school and community partnership, BOA will tap strengths of elementary and high school campuses, as well as valuable community  resources. Relationships will be established with school and community role models, nurturing a lifelong desire for learning. 

Environmental Stewardship 
BOA activities will emphasize an awareness and respect for the earth and its resources, advocating stewardship of the future.

The Boerne Outdoor Academy is a community-based program designed to give children a chance to see themselves within the broad  context of a community dedicated to caring for its environment. Many area students have already participated in the outdoor education  day programs offered at Cibolo Nature Center. BOA is a logical extension of this program. 

BOA learners will be guided by accomplished educators throughout their hands-on explorations. Specially trained  high school “Student Leaders” will assist the students with their interdisciplinary projects.
