Mrs. Janna Clements
Janna Clements is in her third year of teaching and second year at Boerne Middle School South. She began her teaching career in Bryan ISD after graduating from Texas A&M University at College Station with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Philosophy. She and her husband, Tyler, are both educators and are originally from San Antonio, Texas. Janna was awarded Rookie Teacher of the Year for her campus during the 2016-2017 school year and was also highlighted as a Teacher Spotlight May 2018 Winner for Boerne Middle School South. In addition, she is the co-sponsor of the Boerne Middle School South's Student Council. Being an avid reader and writer, Janna loves having the opportunity to share her passion of literature with her students on a daily basis. She is a 21st century educator who incorporates technology into her instruction in order to give her students the opportunity to discover their own learning in relevant and effective ways.
When she is not teaching in the classroom, Janna enjoys cheering on her students at their extracurricular events, such as sport games, concerts, and plays. She finds great joy in getting to support, teach, and impact young people and feels blessed to be a teacher in such an amazing community as Boerne, Texas!

Be sure your student has joined their Reading class period's Google Classroom. In Google Classrooms, agendas, announcements, and assignments will be posted weekly.

8th Grade On-Level Reading
In 8th Grade On-Level Reading, we will refine and master previously learned reading skills. Instruction places emphasis on making connections across genres as students study fiction and nonfiction. Students continue the transition from reading skills to literary and rhetorical analysis, responding to reading in a variety of formal and informal ways. Texts read allow for integration and modeling of reading and writing.
8th Grade Pre-AP Reading
In 8th Grade Pre-AP Reading, we will focus on the intensive and in-depth analysis of texts with core elements include reading, research, and listening and speaking skills. Students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to read and understand increasingly complex text. Emphasis is on comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills in an interactive environment. The pace of this Pre-AP course is accelerated and requires student to perform more independently in a rigorous academic environment.
