Following her positive experience at BHS, she sought out teaching positions in Boerne ISD and accepted a Social Studies position at Boerne Middle School South for the 2012-2013 school year. She is now entering her seventh year in teaching at BMSS.

Mrs. Blomquist has a B.A. in History with a concentration in Political Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Schreiner University. Originally from Canyon Lake and a graduate of Smithson Valley High School, Mrs. Blomquist has called Boerne home for the last 7 years.

Mrs. Blomquist has taught multiple subjects since joining the faculty at BMSS, including 6-8 grade social studies. After teaching social studies for four years, Mrs. Blomquist made the transition to becoming a Career and Technical Education teacher to prepare her students for the future. Currently, Mrs. Blomquist teaches Student Leadership, College and Career Readiness, and FACS of Life. She also coaches the award-winning BMSS Junior Charms Dance Team along with Ms. Laura McCammon. In addition to coaching dance, Mrs. Blomquist is also one of the coaches of the outstanding BMSS Academic UIL team. She coaches Social Studies and Maps, Charts, and Graphs events.

Mrs. Blomquist is very active in Boerne ISD and at BMSS serving on multiple committees including the District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC), District Calendar Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, BMSS Vision Committee, and has acted as the Social Studies Department Chair as well as serving on the Vertical Team for Social Studies. She was a Teacher of the Year nominee in 2014 and won the first BMSS Teacher Spotlight in the 2015-2016 school year. Mrs. Blomquist also choreographs routines for the Dance Team and has earned multiple choreography awards at the MA Regional Dance Competition.

Mrs. Blomquist’s teaching goals are to prepare her students for the future to ensure they are productive members of society and become the future leaders within our community and beyond. Her favorite quote, which illustrates her personal teaching philosophy, is “Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child.” (Betsy Brown Braun) This quote symbolizes the grit and determination Mrs. Blomquist hopes to instill in all of her students so they can be successful, even if they encounter obstacles in life.

In preparing her students for the future, Mrs. Blomquist has become a pilot member of the BISD Teacher Externship program to gain more insight into the employment needs of our local businesses in Boerne. Through this program, she worked with Region 20 ESC, the Boerne Chamber of Commerce, and the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation. Mrs. Blomquist is also a  Teacher Ambassador for the SA300 Tricentennial and has attended the Institute of Texan Cultures’ SA300 Summer Institute to gain more knowledge of the workforce needs of the San Antonio area and how to prepare her students more adequately for these workforce changes. Mrs. Blomquist works to make innovative lessons to support the needs of the workforce of the future including invaluable “soft skills,” frequent self-reflection, and SMART goal setting. In November 2018, Mrs. Blomquist, along with BMSN's Mrs. Hubbard, attended the TEA New CTE Teacher Conference in Austin, Texas as instructors for middle school CTE teachers. As course leaders, Mrs. Blomquist and Mrs. Hubbard utilized their skills in developing curriculum and incorporating useful resources within their classrooms to aid new teachers in developing their own curriculum and provide real-world lessons to their students. Mrs. Blomquist was recently appointed to become a Leader Fellow for Texas OnCourse and will be working to boost state efforts towards college and career success by providing teachers with the tools needed to incorporate college and career literacy in the classroom. More information on this appointment can be found here: Middle School South and Future Voss Teacher Selected for Texas Leadership Fellowship

Mrs. Blomquist and her husband, Justin, are both educators in Boerne ISD and their daughter, Acey, also attends school in BISD. When she is not teaching or coaching, Mrs. Blomquist enjoys being a personal taxi for her daughter Acey who plays travel softball and cheering her on as she plays for the Texas Bombers. Mrs. Blomquist is also a big fan of HGTV and enjoys crafting and interior decorating as a hobby.

In the 2019-2020 school year, Mrs. Blomquist has been selected to become one of the educators who will open the new Captain Mark Tyler Voss Middle School. Mrs. Blomquist will be teaching FACS of Life, Human Services, and Independent Study. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Blomquist will be the FCCLA Sponsor and will be the coach of the new Voss Eaglettes Dance Team. Mrs. Blomquist is grateful for this amazing opportunity and looks forward to starting new traditions with the students of Voss Middle School!
