Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Johnson counts teaching and exploring in the Curington Challenge Lab as one of her biggest blessings. She believes that all children, and especially gifted learners who absorb knowledge easily, need to work hard to hone their skills and use their gifts so that they grow and blossom to benefit the world. It is a joy to be part of these great minds at work.
Mrs. Johnson spent her childhood in beautiful Connecticut and as an adult has lived in Utah, Indiana, Arizona and Argentina. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in American Studies and a minor in gerontology. While yet working on her undergraduate degree, Mrs. Johnson began teaching in Resource at a local elementary school as a teaching assistant assigned to teach small groups throughout the day. Upon graduation, she continued teaching Resources classes in a public elementary school in Salt Lake City until the birth of her first child. She has since taught Spanish as a consultant at Hill Country Montessori, been a private homeschool tutor, subbed in the BISD and worked at the Patrick Heath (Boerne) Public Library for 7 years where she taught beginning Spanish and selected the books for purchase for the YA collection among other things. She and her husband are the parents of four daughters who have each graduated form Boerne High School.
In the Challenge Lab, no matter what is being studied, Mrs Johnson encourages her students to live by the Challenge Philosophy:
*Don't be afraid to try. Just do it!
*Be persistent. Don't stop. Don't give up!
*Be positive. Anything is possible.
*Always ask questions. Be curious!
*Think big. You can change the world.
