BISD Raises Thousands for Childhood Cancer Research

Boerne ISD raised $7,500 for Childhood Cancer Research during September. 

At the Thursday night Boerne High School game, a check was presented to Dr. Greg Aune for $7,500.

The district has been participating in the “Gold Out” campaign to raise awareness and funds to aid childhood cancer research. T-shirts were available to buy on campuses and at football games during September, National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 

Dr. Greg Aune is a childhood cancer survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is a world-renowned, pediatric oncologist at UT Health San Antonio.

His specializations are in long-term survivorship of childhood cancer patients and childhood cancer research.

As the head of the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program at UT Health San Antonio, Dr. Aune and his staff of physicians and health professionals provide to each survivor both advocacy and a full range of follow-up care designed to meet the unique healthcare needs of childhood survivors.

In addition, Dr. Aune’s cutting-edge research focuses on the critical task of developing more effective and less toxic treatments for childhood cancer patients.
