State Leaders Visit Boerne ISD

Chip Two State Leaders in Lawmaking paid visits to the Boerne Independent School District recently. The first Texas Congressman for the 21st District of Texas, Chip Roy, toured the new Dr. Ferdinand L. Herff Elementary School and Boerne Sam V. Champion High School.

Congressman Roy began the day at Herff Elementary and heard from district and campus administrators how the school is designed with collaborative learning in mind. Herff has an area they now refer to as “nests” where students and classes join to work on learning together.

The tour of our district continued to Boerne’s Champion High School where Congressman Roy visited an area of the school referred to as “The Ranch.” The Ranch is an area of the campus where welding, auto technology, and other Career and Technical Education classes are taught.

Students in the welding department showed Congressman Roy and the other visitors the projects they’ve made through the welding course and the certificates they’ve earned. Many students in these programs use the certificates they earn to get high-paying jobs immediately after they graduate from high school.

Congressman Roy ended his trip by attending the Champion Pep-Rally, which happened to be the game selected for the “Gold Out” Campaign to raise money for research of childhood cancer. A cancer survivor himself, Congressman Roy said he was moved by the enthusiasm of the campus to raise awareness for such a deserving cause.

Former San Antonio Councilman and now the Regional Director of Outreach for Raise Your Hand Texas,  Rey Saldaña, visited with district and campus administrators two days after Congressman Roy’s visit. Raise Your Hand Texas is a non-profit began by the HEB foundation that supports public policy in education. Rey

Saldaña met with Cibolo Creek Elementary teachers and Principal Krista Nail to hear directly from educators. The teachers and administrators were able to share what they face in the classroom. Saldaña can now tell lawmakers how they can help even more in the 2021 Legislative Session.

Our district leaders were happy to welcome both representatives to our district.
