Former superintendents, state agency officials and other judges with investment in education toured two BISD campuses.
BOERNE, Tx- Friday, January 31, 2020 a half a dozen judges with the HEB Excellence in Education Award committee toured two BISD campuses.
Judges arrived at one of the district’s newest campuses, Mark T. Voss Middle School early Friday morning and were greeted by campus and district administrators who then took them of a tour of the school. The judges saw collaborative learning areas, restorative circles from the Capturing Kids’ Hearts model of learning and innovative ways of teaching such as classroom transformations.
The judges were led on the tour of the campus by Voss Middle School students who answered their questions along the way.
Boerne Samuel Champion High School was the next stop for the judges who were greeted again by campus and district officials and campus students. The tour of Champion took the judges to collaborative science and math learning areas, “The Ranch” where the district automotive and welding programs are housed and the campus’ fine arts area including choir and theater.
The judges then had a round-table discussion with Superintendent of School, Dr. Thomas Price, followed by a luncheon with a small group of students, parents, teachers and district administrators.
The day concluded with judges departing the district knowing more about the inner workings of BISD, and having a deeper understanding of the excellent work being done inside its walls. The judges will now visit two more districts around the state of Texas before making their final decision for District of the Year in May.
