Boerne ISD Announces Updated Graduation Plans

Graduation May 6, 2020- Boerne ISD received updated guidelines from the Texas Education Agency this week about how to safely hold commencement ceremonies. The TEA guidelines, as well as the executive order from the Governor, state that outdoor graduations can be held in all counties in Texas starting on June 1st as long as certain safety guidelines are followed, which could include spaced seating, sanitizing stations, face mask requirements, and possible ticket limitations. Per the TEA, be advised, this permission is subject to change as underlying public health conditions change. Boerne ISD can now share the following information regarding commencement ceremonies.

Graduation dates for Boerne ISD will be moved to June 4th (CHS) and June 5th (BHS). The ceremonies will still be held at Boerne ISD Stadium at 8pm. Boerne ISD will need to continue to comply with state and local guidelines regarding public gatherings.

As previously stated, the ceremonies may include spaced seating, sanitizing stations, face mask requirements, and possible ticket limitations. Boerne ISD is working on finalizing specific safety information, as well as other logistics to safely hold the ceremonies on June 4th and 5th. As always, our number one priority is the safety of our students and families.

**Should underlying public health conditions change and stricter social distancing requirements become mandated, forcing in-person graduations to be cancelled, both graduation ceremonies will be virtual. Boerne ISD is working on ways to hold this type of commencement ceremony as traditionally as possible.

We realize that some families may not be comfortable attending an in-person commencement ceremony at this time. As noted earlier, the District is working on options for virtual commencement ceremonies for those families. As soon as we have additional information regarding virtual commencement ceremony options, we will notify BISD families.

Boerne ISD will be monitoring updates from the Governor’s office, the Kendall County Emergency Management Center and the cities of Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch, as well as the Texas Education Agency. As soon as we have additional information regarding the commencement ceremonies on June 4th and 5h we will notify BISD families.

Although the ceremonies have been moved to June 4th and 5th, BISD seniors will officially graduate and their diplomas will be conferred on the last day of school, May 21st.

For graduates not participating in a graduation ceremony, paper diplomas will be available for pick up the week after graduation. CHS and BHS administration will contact families when the diplomas are ready for pick up.

Boerne ISD looks forward to honoring the class of 2020! We thank you for your patience as we strive to make this a memorable experience for our seniors.
