Boerne ISD Names New Principals

New PrincipalsMay 16, 2022- The Boerne Independent School District has named new Principals at three campuses for the 2022-23 school year. The new Principals are Dr. Beto Hinojosa (Champion High School), Kathy Cornett (Voss Middle School), and Jennifer Escamilla (Kendall Elementary School). The appointments were approved at the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees meeting on May 16th.

“This is an exciting time for Boerne ISD, along with Champion, Voss, and Kendall to welcome extraordinary Principals to their campuses, all of who have deep roots in our community,” said Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price. “Beto, Kathy, and Jennifer are all exemplary leaders but are even better human beings. Having been a part of our community for many years, they share the same values as their friends and neighbors in Boerne, and understand the culture of excellence at Boerne ISD,” Dr. Price concluded.

New Champion Principal Dr. Beto Hinojosa has been an Administrator in Boerne ISD for the past 12 years. Dr. Hinojosa was the first-ever Principal at Voss Middle School where he has served since the campus opened in 2019. He has also served as Principal at Fabra Elementary, Assistant Principal at Boerne Middle School North, and Boerne ISD’s Title IX Coordinator.

While at North, Dr. Hinojosa was selected as the Texas Assistant Principal of the Year. During his leadership tenure at Boerne ISD, his campuses have received multiple TEA distinction designations in academic performance and in closing performance gaps. Most recently, Capt. Mark T. Voss Middle School was named a Texas School to Watch and National Model School. In the 2021-2022 school year, Dr. Hinojosa attended the Thompson Executive Leadership Academy, a competitive and prestigious program for top educational leaders in the state.

Prior to his time in  Boerne ISD, Dr. Hinojosa’s career took him to Lake Travis ISD where he taught and coached, and Damon ISD where he served as Principal and Athletic Director.

In his free time, he loves to spend time with his family, Wife Mariana, and children Liam (8), Luca (2), and Annick (1).

Current Champion Principal Bill Daniels will retire at the end of the school year after nearly 40 years of service in the education field. Mr. Daniels was named Champion Principal in July 2021. He and his wife Glenda are looking forward to spending their retirement in Boerne.

“We are extremely happy for Bill and Glenda to start the next chapter of their lives, Dr. Price stated. “Bill came in and did a fantastic job at Champion. His leadership skills are second to none. We wish him and Glenda all the best in retirement,” said Dr. Price.

Kathy Cornett, the new Voss Middle School Principal, has served Boerne ISD since 2007, all at Boerne High School. Mrs. Cornett taught math at Boerne High School from 2007 to 2019, before moving into administration at BHS three years ago, first as an Assistant Principal and currently as the Academic Dean.

This is Mrs. Cornett’s 19th year in education. She began her career as a math teacher at Judson High School, she then taught math at Arlington High School before moving to Boerne High School in the Fall of 2007.

As a lifelong learner, she has a Master of Business Administration, 18 graduate hours in Applied Statistics, and her Master’s in Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Cornett and her husband John have two children, Byron “Connor” (10th grade) and Kylie (8th grade).

New Kendall Elementary School Principal and longtime Boerne resident Jennifer Escamilla comes to Boerne ISD after spending nearly 20 years as an Administrator and Teacher in Northside ISD. Ms. Escamilla has spent the last six years as Principal at Meadow Village Elementary School, which was just named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts Showcase campus, and is the only campus in NISD to receive this honor. Prior to that, she served five years as Associate Principal at Mary Hull Elementary School, a bilingual campus, and taught 3rd grade for six years at Powell Elementary School.

Ms. Escamilla is an 18-year resident of Boerne. Her children Grayson (8th grade) and Riley (6th grade) currently attend Boerne Middle School North and are proud alumni of Curington Elementary.

She was a member of the NISD Strategic Design Team, served as a mentor to other principals, and piloted the work of Instructional Rounds. Ms. Escamilla believes that building strong relationships within the school community is the cornerstone of a positive campus culture.

Boerne ISD opens the 2022-23 school year on August 10th.
