Two Boerne ISD Teachers Perform Life-Saving Activities

Life savingMarch 3, 2023- Two Boerne Independent School District Teachers are being hailed as heroes in two separate life-saving incidents.

Boerne Middle School North Teacher Julie Olsen was a parent volunteer during Curington Elementary School’s Boerne Outdoor Academy trip, where she saved a person’s life.

One morning during the trip, an employee at the camp was beginning to prepare breakfast when the gas stove exploded in the kitchen. The worker was immediately knocked to the floor and his head was nearly engulfed in flames. Thankfully, Mrs. Olsen was in the kitchen at that fateful time and sprang into action, and protected the worker’s face and body.

Luckily, thanks to Mrs. Olsen’s quick instinct, he is recovering and is doing well today.

Mrs. Olsen was recognized at the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees February meeting where she was commended for her actions.

Fabra Elementary School Teacher Claudia Salazar saved a student’s life during lunch. The student was choking on a blackberry when, thankfully, fellow classmates were able to get Mrs. Salazar’s attention. She then rushed across the cafeteria to assist the student.

Thankfully, Mrs. Salazar quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the blackberry and saved the students' life.

Mrs. Salazar was surprised in her classroom by Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price who thanked her for her quick response.
