Boerne Middle School North Music Teacher is one of 188 teachers in the country, and one of only eight in Texas, selected for honor

BOERNE, Tx- Boerne Middle School North Music Teacher, Jonathan Rickman, is now a quarter finalist for the 2019 GRAMMY Music Educator Award. The winner will spend a week in Los Angeles and attend the 61st GRAMMY Awards. Teachers who are chosen as finalists, and semi-finalists, will receive school grants from the Ford Motor Company.

“I am humbled to have been named a quarter finalist for the 2019 GRAMMY Music Educator Award,” said Rickman. “This is an exciting honor,” he said.

The campus will now create submission packages of video testimonials on behalf of Rickman for his consideration in the award process.

“We are very proud of Mr. Rickman,” said Boerne Middle School North’s Principal Tommy Hungate. “His love of music and making students love music is obvious and we hope the judges see this in our submissions.”

According to the Grammy in the Schools program, students in high-quality school music programs score higher on standardized tests compared to students in schools with deficient music education programs. Also, schools that have music programs have significantly higher attendance rates and graduation rates than those without program.

“I am honored to be named a quarter finalist,” said Rickman. “The rest is just icing on the cake.”
