Champion High School Announces Successor to Longtime Basketball Coach

BISD teacher and previous head coach for Harlandale High School, Chris Adamek, selected as successor to Coach Stan Leech.

BOERNE, Tx- There is a new Head Basketball Coach for the Champion High School Chargers Boys Basketball team. District employee Chris Adamek will take on the role vacated by Stan Leech in May.

Adamek has 22 years of experience coaching in various districts including serving as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for Boerne High School from 2000-2003. During that time the Greyhounds ended their season as Regional Quarter-Finalists for two consecutive years. Adamek also served as head or assistant basketball coach in Harlandale ISD, Three Rivers ISD, and Hays CISD. Along with a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration, Adamek has a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences from Texas Tech University.

Adamek is replacing Coach Stan Leech who was promoted to Full-Time Athletic Director in May after coaching for 34 years. Coach Leech has the designation of being one of the most winningest coach in the area, reaching his 800th win in December 2017. “I have some big shoes to fill,” said Adamek about the announcement. “And I hope the players are ready to continue accomplishing major milestones.”

“Chris is respected in our region for the success he had previously at Boerne High as a player and assistant coach,” said Coach Leech. “The job he did as a head coach at Three Rivers and especially the 14 years at Harlandale made him an excellent candidate for the Champion basketball job.”

Adamek is already a district employee as a teacher at the BISD Academy and Alternative center. His wife of 21 years, Dawn Adamek, is also a district employee and teaches music at Curington Elementary.
