About the Library

The Kendall Elementary Library Media Center is to be a library and learning commons that supports the campus in the development of future-ready citizens by encouraging innovation, collaboration, curiosity, critical inquiring, and transliteracy.   Students have access to a variety of materials including books, e-books, and digital resources.  The library is also a great place to curl up and read a  book! The library serves all students, Pre-K through fifth grade.

The library is open from 7:10 am - 3:00 pm Monday-Thursday, and 7:30-3:00 pm on Friday.  Students in PreK-2nd grade will visit the library each week with their classes and 3rd-5th grade will visit as scheduled by their teachers. All students may come to the library between class visits to work independently or exchange their book(s).  Students are welcome to visit the library on Fridays during their Wonder Hour time to get help from the library or access the library resources.

Library Procedures

Students come to the library for a lesson and to check out books accompanied by their classroom teacher.  

Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade may check out one book at a time.  Students in 2nd through 5th grade may check out two books at a time.  Although students visit the library each week, students may keep their books for up to two weeks.  After two weeks, students must either return their book(s) or renew them for an additional two weeks.  We do not charge overdue fines, however, we do charge for lost and damaged books.  Lost or damaged book fees equal the cost of replacement for the book.

As we are working to renew our collection, we need your help to ensure that our books remain in excellent condition.

Please encourage your child take care of their library materials by reading them with clean hands, keeping them away from food and drinks, keeping them away from pets and very small children, and by using a bookmark to mark their place.  Water bottles often leak and should not be placed inside of the backpack next to a library book.  Younger students may benefit from using a large ziploc to help protect the book from spills in the backpack.

Volunteers

The library loves having volunteers to make it a successful learning environment for all students. The library would love assistance with book circulation, book shelving, crafting/making, or book fair.  If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact the librarian.

The Kendall Elementary Library Media Center will partner with teachers by providing space and resources to develop enthusiastic readers, competent researchers, innovative thinkers, and collaborative learners who engage with their school and community as future-ready citizens.

In order to accomplish our mission, the Kendall Elementary Library will:

• foster a learning environment that encourages investigation, allows for independent thinking, and develops effective study habits for all ages and abilities.

• provide materials that support the curriculum, student interests, and staff including our dual language population.

• promote the students’ enjoyment of and commitment to reading.

• expose students to materials which reflect the rich diversity of our world.

• promote awareness and use of resources available in the library, both print and electronic.
