Boerne ISD, Middle School South Finalists for Statewide Awards

BMSSOctober 14, 2021- The Boerne Independent School District and Boerne Middle School South have both been selected as statewide Finalists for English Language Proficiency Growth. Boerne ISD has been selected as one of the Top 25 School Districts in the state, and BMSS was chosen as one of the Top 25 Middle Schools in the state. Boerne ISD and BMSS will be recognized by K12 Summit at the 2021 Texas Association of Bilingual Education Conference on October 26th in El Paso.

Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price stated, “We are proud of the leadership and commitment of our district and Boerne Middle School South Teachers and Administrators in helping each of our Emergent Bilingual Students reach their full potential. Congratulations to everyone in Boerne ISD and at Boerne Middle School South on achieving this incredible accomplishment.”

Boerne ISD and Boerne Middle School South were selected for this distinguished award based on the Closing the Gaps-Domain 3 English Proficiency indicator percentage. This indicator rates the progress of Emergent Bilingual Students (EBs) and Long-term ELs from year to year in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Writing, and Reading. From 2019 to 2021 BMSS increased its progress percentage by 30%, while Boerne ISD increased the percentage district-wide by a total of 17%. This distinguishes Boerne ISD and Boerne Middle School South from thousands of other Texas School campuses partnered with Summit K12.

“As our district continues to earn statewide recognition in many categories, it is clear that we have the best teachers and staff in the state,” said Price. “Families from across Texas and the U.S, including Bilingual families, move to Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch in large part to the success of our schools, and we expect that trend to continue for years to come,” Price concluded.

As part of the formal recognition, Boerne Middle School South will receive one of the following grants, which will be announced at TABE:

1st Place: $1,500

2nd Place: $1,000

3rd Place: $750

State Top 10 Finalist: $250
