Student Assessments

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) program includes annual assessments for:
- Reading Language Arts and Mathematics, grades 3-8
- Science, grades 5 and 8
- Social Studies, grade 8
- End-of-Course (EOC) assessments for English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and U.S. History
Grades 3–8 STAAR and the primary End-of-Course tests are given in the spring. Additional EOC opportunities are provided in fall and summer primarily for retesting.

STAAR Alternate 2 assesses students receiving special education in grades 3-8 and high school who have significant cognitive disabilities. The STAAR Alternate 2 assessment includes annual assessments for:
- Reading Language Arts and Mathematics, grades 3-8
- Science, grades 5 and 8
- Social Studies, grade 8
- End-of-Course (EOC) assessments for English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and U.S. History

The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is an English language proficiency assessment aligned to the Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). This assessment is designed to assess the progress that emergent bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language. TELPAS assesses students in grades K-12 in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
TELPAS Alternate assesses emergent bilingual (EB) students in grades 2-12 receiving special education who have significant cognitive disabilities.
