Mrs. Laura Brace

Mrs. Brace joined the Boerne ISD family in 2017 after moving to Texas from Rome, NY. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and a Masters of Science in Reading & Literacy, Mrs. Brace has worked in a variety of educational settings for nearly 20 years. She enjoys being creative and utilizing new ideas and approaches to improve the learning environment for her students. Mrs. Brace has incorporated a variety of hands-on activities, fun manipulatives and learning projects to inspire and motivate the students. This also includes the innovative integration of technology across the curriculum.

Outside of school, Mrs. Brace enjoys nature and walking with her three dogs (Odin, Tor, and Loki). She and her husband are recently empty-nesters with her youngest step-son attending West Point, another in the Air Force, and her step-daughter living in Chicago.

  • In Mrs. Brace's class we will be studying lots of amazing things and preparing for the amazing world of middle school.

In fifth grade Language Arts, students read and understand a wide variety of literary and informational texts and compose a variety of written texts with a clear controlling idea, coherent organization, and sufficient detail. Students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing and oral language skills and should read and write on a daily basis.

In Social Studies, students will focus on the history of the United States from 1565 to the present. Historical content includes the colonial period, the American Revolution, the establishment of the U.S. Constitution and American identity, westward expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction, immigration and industrialization, and the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will use critical-thinking skills to identify cause-and-effect relationships, compare and contrast, and make generalizations and predictions.

Math and Science are with Mr. Montoya:

In grade 5, students are solving problems involving all four operations with positive rational numbers, determining and generating formulas and solutions to expressions, and extending measurement to area and volume. These areas are supported throughout the mathematical strands of numbers and operations, algebraic reasoning, geometry and measurement, and data analysis.

Science investigations are used to learn about the natural world. Topics include matter & energy, force & motion, earth & space, and organisms & environment.
