Dr. Price Named Region 20 Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Price SOY ceremony July 15, 2020- The Boerne Independent School District announced on Wednesday that Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price has been named the 2019-20 Education Service Center (ESC) Region 20 Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Price was presented the award on Wednesday during a small ceremony in the Boerne ISD Board Room.

“I am beyond humbled and honored to receive this recognition from Region 20,” Dr. Price said. “I would  like to thank our board, our administration, staff, students and families, for their hard work and support of Boerne ISD. I am truly grateful to be able to live and work in this community,” Dr. Price continued.

As the Region 20 winner, Dr. Price will now be a finalist for the Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year, which will be awarded in October. ESC-20 serves 56 school districts and 34 charters across 19 counties. Dr. Price was a finalist for the 2011 Texas Superintendent of the Year when he was at Splendora ISD.

“There are so many wonderful Superintendent’s in Region 20, I am very appreciative for each of their support as well,” stated Dr. Price. “We are all here because we care for the children in our communities, and want to make a difference and have a positive impact in their lives,” said Price.

Dr. Price, whose contract was extended by the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees in June, has been at the helm of the district since July 2017. Under Dr. Price’s leadership, Boerne ISD has been named the Best Small School District in Texas by the HEB Excellence in Education Awards, as well as earned two straight A ratings in the Texas Education Agency Report Card. Boerne ISD is consistently considered a top destination for both employees and students.

“There is no doubt that Dr. Price is well-deserving of this prestigious award,” Boerne ISD Board of Trustees President Maritza Gonzalez-Cooper Said. “Since he came to Boerne ISD in 2017 he has excelled as a leader, which in turn has taken Boerne ISD to new heights as a school district. The Board of Trustees has the utmost confidence in Dr. Price to continue to lead our district to the next level, and continue being a top-notch district for students and families. We are extremely proud of Dr. Price for earning this award, and look forward to him continuing to lead Boerne ISD for many years to come,” Gonzalez-Cooper said.

The Superintendent of the Year program is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards and has recognized superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership since 1984.

Candidates are chosen for their leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality in their districts, and commitment to public involvement in education. Local nominees are submitted to a regional selection committee, which chooses one nominee to send to a state selection committee.

The state committee will interview all regional winners in Austin in August and select five state finalists. The Superintendent of the Year will be announced in September at the 2020 Texas Association of School Administrators/TASB Convention in Dallas.
