  • The English Language Arts and Reading program for Boerne Independent School District supports the district’s mission through the development and delivery of TEKS-based instruction and assessment for grades PK-12 in the promotion of life-long literacy and college and career readiness.

Boerne ISD believes that the key to being a great reader is to read extensively, and the key to being a great writer is through exposure to great writing. Reading is not solely reserved for the school year; lifelong learning stems from becoming a lifelong reader. Summer provides time to enjoy uninterrupted reading that allows students to absorb and contemplate ideas from their reading experiences. Summer reading gives students a strong foundation to build upon as they move through the English Language Arts program.  We encourage all BISD students to continue reading over the summer break and join the Boerne Public Library's Summer Reading Program.  Below are some suggestions from various resources such as the Texas Education Agency, Texas Library Association, and the International Literacy Association.

Summer reading for students entering middle school Pre-AP, high school Pre-AP, and high school AP and Dual Credit have required titles and assignments listed below.

Parents should work with their children to choose appropriate books.  This resource from Scholastic can help parents with selecting books that are just right for their children: "Help Kids to P.I.C.K. the right books."
