Boerne ISD Names P-TECH Director

Menchaca PTECHJuly 26th, 2021- The Boerne Independent School District has announced Valerie Menchaca has been named Director of Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH Academy).

Boerne P-TECH Academy is an innovative program open to all Boerne ISD students who will complete their high school requirements with the opportunity to achieve industry-based certification in Cybersecurity as well as an associate degree. Boerne P-TECH Academy is scheduled to open in August 2022 on the campus of Boerne-Champion High School.

“With career pathways in Technology expanding every day, we are pleased to hire Valerie Menchaca as our first-ever P-TECH Director,” said Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price. “Careers in P-TECH are extremely valuable and highly sought after. Our area is seeing an influx of technology and cybersecurity companies, bringing hundreds of jobs. Our students will compete for those jobs thanks to our P-TECH Academy. This is very exciting for Boerne ISD students and our community,” said Price.

Ms. Menchaca, an educator for 20 years, comes to Boerne ISD after spending the last four years at South San Antonio ISD, most recently as the Career and Technical Education District Coordinator during the 2020-21 school year. She was SSAISD’s District Science Facilitator from 2017-18 prior to becoming Science Technology Engineering and Math Academy Coordinator from 2018-2020. 

Ms. Menchaca spent 16 years at Edgewood ISD as an Instructional Coach, Summer Enrichment Site Facilitator and Classroom Instructor.

The first cohort of 9th graders will start at Boerne P-TECH Academy in August 2022 and will be a part of the first graduating class in 2026. Current Boerne ISD Middle School students will begin receiving information regarding Boerne P-TECH Academy later this school year
