November 10, 2022- The Boerne Education Foundation awarded a record $202,075.63 in Teacher Innovation Grants to educators across all Boerne ISD schools. In all, 73 grants were funded, with staff members surprised with the news of their grant Thursday with a big check announcement at each campus.
Teachers completed an online application at the beginning of the school year and the grants are awarded before Thanksgiving with the intent to have the grants in the classroom by January. The grants are reviewed and awarded in a blind process by committee members of the Boerne Education Foundation board. The grants enable teachers to purchase necessary classroom supplies to promote innovative teaching through critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
“The Boerne Education Foundation is incredibly proud to be awarding over $200,000 in grants to teachers throughout Boerne ISD. This is the largest amount we’ve distributed in several years, so to have these funds available to recognize innovative teaching makes us extremely grateful to our sponsors and donors,” said Sara Hill, Boerne Education Foundation’s Vice President For Disbursements. “This year we will award teachers with many high dollar grants, between $16,000 and $5,000, and we hope these large amounts will make a big impact on our students. Teacher Innovation Grants are the bread and butter of the Boerne Education Foundation, and we look forward to announcing the grant winners each year,” Hill stated.
Boerne High School led the way with 14 grants, while Boerne Middle School South and Herff Elementary received eight each.
The remaining grants by school were: Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary (7), Cibolo Creek Elementary (6), Van Raub Elementary (6), Boerne Middle School North (6), Champion High School (4), Fabra Elementary (4), Curington Elementary (4), Kendall Elementary (3), Central Office (2), and Voss Middle School (1).
