SRO AwardsJuly 26, 2023- The Boerne Independent School District, along with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, received statewide awards at the 2023 Texas Association of School Resource Officers (TASRO) Safe Schools Conference.

BISD Chief of Safety and Security Rick Goodrich was named the 2023 TASRO Administrator of the Year, while Voss Middle School Resource Officer and Kendall County Sheriff Deputy Jared Moore earned the 2023 Officer of the Year Award.

Goodrich joined BISD in August of 2022 after 22 years of law enforcement investigative experience with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as well as 22 years of distinguished military service with the United States Air Force. Goodrich most recently served as the supervisor for the San Antonio Texas Anti-Gang Initiative (TAG), which is a multi-agency unit comprised of representatives from eight separate agencies which include, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and more.

Deputy Moore attended Boerne schools growing up and graduated from Boerne High School in 2006. He started his law enforcement career in 2010 in Nueces County as a Corrections Officer. In 2012 he graduated from Victoria College Police Academy with his Texas Peace Officer License. Deputy Moore then became a sworn Police Officer with the Beeville Police Department. He was an active S.W.A.T. member as well as an F.T.O. (Field Training Officer). In 2014, Deputy Moore returned to his hometown of Boerne and began working with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office as a Patrol Deputy.

Boerne ISD has received regional and statewide recognition for hosting several Law Enforcement training events, as well as being recognized as an industry leader in school safety. BISD

Boerne ISD, along with the Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch Police Departments, and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, assigned each Boerne ISD campus with a designated School Resource Officer beginning in the 2022-23 school year. This collaboration is in an effort to strengthen safety and security measures at all Boerne ISD facilities.

BISD and the law enforcement agencies share the costs associated with SRO’s. School Resource Officers (SRO’s) are certified law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools. SRO’s are active members of local law enforcement and have extensive background and training and will continue to train for the various scenarios.

In addition to the increase in SRO’s, Boerne ISD continues to thoroughly review its safety and security protocols, such as performing an internal and external safety audit, screening all visitors though Raptor visitor management, as well as the use of multiple layers of security that are visible and not visible.
