Nearly 100 Boerne ISD Students Earn Medical Assistant Certification

May 28, 2024- The Boerne Independent School District saw a total of 96 students from Boerne High School and Champion High School earn their certified clinical medical assistant certification during the 2023-24 school year.

 

The students were certified by the National Healthcareer Association, becoming Certified Clinical Medical Assistants.

 

BISD’s Medical Assistant Program is a four-course sequence, including topics such as anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Students must also pass the certifying exam. The students shadow and intern with physicians in a variety of settings, including the emergency room, physical therapy, dental, ophthalmology, and family medicine.

 

Medical assistants perform a variety of tasks, including taking patient vitals, assisting providers with exams and procedures, administering medications, and performing necessary laboratory procedures.

Boerne ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Science program offers students the opportunity to earn the following certifications: 

  • BLS CPR
  • OSHA 10 Health
  • Patient care technician
  • EKG technician
  • Phlebotomy
  • Certified clinical medical assistant
  • Registered nurse (ECHS PTECH)
