  • In an effort to help alleviate elementary school overcrowding, the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees gave final approval to new elementary school attendance zones at their regular monthly meeting on Monday night.

The board approved Proposal A, which was amended to give Planning Units 60 (Spring Creek Estates and Friendly Hills subdivisions) and 78 (Stone Creek Ranch, The Homestead, Ammann Farms, and Boerne Ranch Estates subdivisions) the option to stay at their current schools. Proposal A was recommended by the attendance zone committee.

The new elementary school attendance zones will go into effect at the start of the 2020-21 school year.

  • My child is going to be a fifth grader next year. Will they be able to finish at the current school?

    Posted by:

We have traditionally allowed families to remain at a particular school to complete the final year. When allowed to transfer, the parent must provide transportation.

In that year only, younger siblings also will have the option of remaining at their current campus. However, the following year – once the fifth-grader has promoted to sixth grade – all younger siblings, regardless of grade, must enroll at the school for which their family residence is zoned.

Parents will be responsible for providing transportation for students who choose to remain at their current campus for the 2020-21 school year.

  • We just rezoned last year. How long before you have to rezone again?

    Posted by:

There is no clear answer to this question. Communities continue to change over time, and our goal is not to rezone. Depending on the zoning solution, it may last for a few or for several years.

  • We specifically bought a home to attend the schools to which we are zoned. Why consider rezoning?

    Posted by:

Boerne ISD understands the impact that rezoning has on families. However, our District is rapidly growing, and, as a result, we must open new campuses from time to time. In addition, we must periodically revisit the attendance boundaries of existing campuses where we have seen demographic changes. We try not to rezone for the sake of rezoning, and are interested in maximizing the use of existing facilities and reducing the use of temporary or portable classrooms where possible. We are committed as a District to providing outstanding schools for all of our students.

  • Kendall Elementary's Pre-K program utilizes a large classroom and other resources.

    Posted by:

Are there options to move Pre-K from Kendall to another elementary?

We offer the full continuum of services at all elementary classrooms.  Currently, there is only one Pre-K classroom at Kendall, which will remain there in order to remain consistent in program offerings across the district.

  • What about students with IEP, will they be given an opportunity to stay at the same campus?

    Posted by:

BISD provides a continuum of Special Education services at all district campuses. If needed, we will provide additional guidance on the transfer process to families once a decision has been made. We'll consider each student's situation on an individual basis.

  • Will high school attendance zones be realigned?

    Posted by:

High school zones are unchanged by these proposed elementary zone changes. High school choice, a provision that has been in place in some form since the opening of the district's second high school in 2008, has been extended for incoming 9th-grade students and all new-to-the-district students. Students have the option of attending either Boerne High School or Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School.
