Mrs. Lynnese Graves, AKBD

Lynnese Graves graduated from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education.  Majoring first in Interior Design, her love for the subject guided her into the design industry as owner of her stained glass company from 1994 - 2002.  Being an entrepreneur allowed her to put her teaching career on hold in order to be a stay-at-home mom for her three children.  2022-2023 marks Mrs. Graves’ 29th year of teaching, twenty six years as a Family and Consumer Science teacher in public schools and three as a preschool teacher for a private school.  Her husband of 38 years has been by her side every step of the way.

This year is her 23rd year teaching for Boerne ISD.  Mrs. Graves has taught Interior Design for all 26 years, eight of those being articulated for college credit.   Six years ago, she added the Architecture Design pathway courses to her schedule and is excited to continue to provide her students with new certification opportunities.  As of last year, each level of the Architecture and Interior Design curriculum has been combined, allowing students to see both sides of these exciting and creative careers.

Students in this pathway have the opportunity to include the following certifications on their professional resume’:

5-Hour CareerSafe Employability Skills

AAFCS National Interior Design Exam

10-Hour OSHA Workplace Safety Certification

National Chief Architect Apprentice Examination

Mrs. Graves has also been lead advisor for FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) for 26 years.  She has received recognition as Region V Advisor of the Year, National Master FCCLA Advisor, and has mentored many new advisors and FCS teachers entering into this prestigious profession.  Her favorite hobbies include organic gardening, cooking and touring historic homes and buildings.  This year she will also serve as advisor to SKILLS USA - Architecture Club and CHS NKBA Chapter.  She has recently added the appellation of National Kitchen and Bath Association Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer Certification.
