Mr. Robert Jones

Mr. Robert Jones won a seat in the trumpet section of the San Angelo Symphony upon entering Angelo State University. A few years later he would also double on Violin. While at ASU he performed in the Marching, Concert, and Pep Bands as well as the  Jazz Ensemble and in the pit orchestra for ASU Musical Productions. He completed his studies at ASU with a Bachelor of Music Education degree.

After ASU he continued his studies of the Trumpet and Violin at North Texas State University where he continued to participate in a variety of university ensembles while completing the Master of Music Education degree. It was a thrill to play in the Orchestra and in the Jazz Bands with so many wonderful and supportive musicians and great conductors.

Mr. Jones’ primary teachers have included David Pennock, Harris Brinson and Leonard Candelaria – Trumpet; Lorraine Combs, Alan Sandlin, James Lerch, Robert Davidovici and Albert Muenzer – Violin; and Bill Davis and Dr. Ansel Brusilow – Conducting.

Mr. Jones’ teaching career started in Pasadena and has since included positions in Deer Park, Houston, San Angelo, and San Antonio where he served as the Head Orchestra Director at W.H. Taft HS from 1998 to 2021. In addition to his duties at Taft he directed or assisted with programs at Zachry, Connally, Briscoe, and Jefferson middle schools, Warren HS, and numerous elementary schools.

Mr. Jones is very excited to return to the “Magic” of teaching and conducting young artists at Boerne High School. He is also looking forward to the privilege of assisting with the orchestras of Boerne  MS North and Voss MS and becoming a member of the Boerne ISD Fine Arts Community.

In addition to music Mr. Jones enjoys Golf, team sports, and almost everything outdoors. He enjoys Chess  and he loves ice cream and anything chocolate.

Fun fact: Mr. Jones’ favorite summer job while attending college was guiding canoeing expeditions through the Quetico Provincial Park (Canada)  and the Superior National Forest (USA) for the Boy Scouts of America. He guided about two dozen crews and has traversed over 2,000 miles of water and trails. Everybody made it home safely.
